The sun is shining, the birds are chirping and your home is likely overdue for a little spring refresh! Here’s how to brighten up your space and shed the weight of winter, even while staying indoors.

Let the light in

For perhaps the easiest spring refresh, simply open the blinds or curtains each and every morning! While weather across the country is improving, many people are receiving far less direct sunlight. Consider paying homage to the season with decorative botanical curtain tie backs or tap into your creative side with a crafty DIY from HGTV.

Spring clean

While you’re at it, whip out the Windex and ensure those windows are sparkling. This is the perfect time to sort through old documents, break out the steam cleaner and finally muck out that junk drawer. If you’re an owner, also consider giving the exterior of your home a refresh. Repair pavers, plant flowers or even pick up a paintbrush!

Get online

Take to the internet and shop around for some Martha Stewart-approved spring decor, including breezy fabrics, spring-inspired artwork and anything floral. Other fun options include edible pops of color in the form of fresh fruit, windchimes, stained glass and day-brightening window clings.

Refresh your flora

Give your plants new life! Prune to encourage growth and repot those that have outgrown their home in the last year. If you’re tired of terracotta, play around with paint! Simply scrub each pot with warm water, let dry and create colorful designs with low-adhesion tape and any paint you’ve got lying around. Another option is utilizing unneeded fabric for an instant facelift.

Pick a playlist

The holidays don’t have a monopoly on seasonal music! Sit down and collect any songs that make you feel happy and light. Connect to speakers, earbuds or simply utilize your phone or laptop for an ambiance that matches the warming weather. Online streaming services provide great jumping-off points for listeners of all genres!

Switch out scents

Pumpkin spice and evergreen have come and gone – now it’s time for lilac, melon and cotton to shine! Swap candles, reed diffusers and essential oils reminiscent of cooler days for their lighter, brighter counterparts. You can also get creative with spring scented crafts, like homemade room spray and fragrant paper flowers.

There’s no reason your space can’t be as fresh, bright and inviting as your favorite plot of park grass. In just six simple steps, you can turn your face to the sun and bring the outdoors in!
